Fall of 2001 marked the harvest of the first test plot of compositionally enhanced soybeans with the development of a variety with lower saturated fat/low linolenic acid. This effort to provide a number of value-added soybean varieties to the food and feed industries also demands a process to detect the presence of an enhanced trait at all stages in the continuum from breeder to consumer.
The Soybean Quality Traits Analytical Standards Program (SQT-ASP) was a system of verification in analytical measurements to achieve and maintain peak performance of laboratory staff and equipment. This program provided the infrastructure for the generation of reliable analytical results at all levels of the soybean industry by establishing industry-wide acceptance of analytical methods and protocols and their implementation under internationally accepted quality management standards.
Seed companies, laboratories (referee, private and end-user) and grain handling facilities participated in SQT.
